Worship is at the heart of our parish life. Worship is supported and enriched by the work of our choirs and fine musical instruments.
The Parish Choir
The Parish Choir plays an important part in the life of St. John’s Episcopal Church and is composed of 14 to 18 talented and dedicated volunteers. This choir participates in over 50 services each year, singing anthems in each service, and leading the congregation in the singing of hymns, psalms and service music. While the core of our repertoire is drawn from our Anglican heritage, we sing music from many periods and styles. All voice parts are welcome.
Parish Choir rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. August through May. In June and July the choir rehearses on Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m.
The Children’s Choir
The Children’s Choir is composed of young people in grades three and above. This choir sings alone or with the parish choir at all major feasts and celebrations throughout the year.
All people are welcome in our choirs and you do not need to be a member of the parish to participate. We expect only a faithful commitment to the work of the choirs. If you are interested in becoming a member of the choirs or participating in the work of the music program at St. John’s, please contact Conrad Soderstrom at (318) 377-1259.
St. John’s incorporates a 17-rank pipe organ along with a two octave set of hand bells.
